I Am Not Stepping Back
A loudspeaker on a polished metal pedestal: clinical, sleek—yet nothing here is neutral. Its mirrored surface reflects the viewer, forcing a confrontation with the self. Who speaks? And who is allowed to be heard? This work explores how judgment and exclusion shape identity. The viewer is literally absorbed into the object—just as individuals adapt themselves to societal norms in order to belong. The sculpture seduces, but also asks a painful question: who decides who is visible, audible, or valued? Within this glossy silence, the harsh dynamics of inequality are laid bare—and with them, the possibility of liberation.
