fragments or the search for individual and cultural identity

Where do our memories end and collective memory begins? Where does individual creativity ends and cultural appropriation begins? That is what I am trying to find out with the jars from the 'Fragments'-series. The design of these jars is based on my western roots, visual language and skills but also on personal memories of my many visits of North Africa. All these elements or fragments together form my individual identity, which consists of a mix of time-bound social and cultural values and patterns and my reaction to them. The jars also refer to ceramic objects from antiquity, the shards of which are literally glued together.

The octagonal ceramic objects are developed and produced by Cor Unum Den Bosch.
